Event Recap: The First Promise

Context A crimson-sealed summons brought Volarian to answer a quiet meeting shaped by memory, duty, and ambition.
Theme Whispers before the flame, hidden purpose, and the first true step in the Vestige’s ascent.

Beneath stone, mist, and the weight of old wars, Aestyn Rostonvold met with Volarian Thornevale after a crimson-sealed letter called him to answer.

There were no banners. No open flame. No Scarlet colours proudly worn for passing eyes to see. Only two men, armed and weathered, speaking quietly where the road would one day lead toward greater ambition.

Aestyn tested Volarian’s resolve, questioning what remained of his oath, his purpose, and whether the sacred flame still burned within him. Volarian answered as a soldier of the old cause: weary, changed, but unbroken. Though doubtful of the difficulty ahead, he admitted that if the flame was to be rekindled, he would not be the one to deny it.

At last, Aestyn revealed himself as Commander of the Vestige of Tirisfal and offered Volarian command over its military arm. Recruitment, discipline, drilling, and the shaping of soldiers would fall under his authority. Volarian accepted on the condition that his men remain his responsibility, free from needless inquisitorial meddling. Aestyn agreed, granting him command, but made clear that all would still serve the cause.

Together, they spoke of more than survival. A hidden refuge would be needed, not to hide in fear, but to take root. Beyond that, Aestyn pointed toward Stromgarde, a stronghold of humanity, where the Vestige would begin to blend in, watch, learn, recruit, and quietly shape the future.

Tomorrow, at the setting of the sun, Volarian is to return to the same place. There, both he and Aestyn will meet the cause’s High Inquisitor for the first time, and the next step of the Vestige will begin.

The Scarlet cause is not dead.
It has merely learned to whisper before it burns.

Consequences of the Meeting

What This Event Established

Resolve Tested

Aestyn measured whether Volarian still held to the old oath. The answer was not one of blind zeal, but steadfast conviction tempered by experience.

Military Command Granted

Volarian formally accepted authority over the military arm of the Vestige, taking responsibility for recruitment, discipline, drilling, and soldiering.

A Refuge Envisioned

The meeting moved beyond survival. A refuge and foothold are now part of the cause’s shaping, not as retreat, but as the first root of growth.

The Next Step Begins

With Stromgarde named as a future place of influence and the High Inquisitor soon to be met, the Vestige’s next chapter is already in motion.

Notes

  • No overt display of Scarlet identity, preserving secrecy and tension.
  • A ruined and solemn setting reinforces the burden of history and old wars.
  • The tone remains restrained, ideological, and deeply rooted in whispered purpose.
  • The meeting feels like the beginning of a movement rather than a mere reunion.

Before It Burns, It Whispers

From this meeting forward, the Vestige no longer lingers only in memory. It has structure, direction, and those willing to carry its cause quietly into the world.
